Ships
Ships are the backbone of trade and travel across Endros. Roughly two to three thousand seagoing vessels operate along its coasts, alongside ten to twenty thousand smaller craft such as fishing boats, tenders, and river barges. Five to eight hundred of the seagoing vessels are Enchanted Ships capable of propelling themselves, and they dominate the most valuable routes, while most others rely on Enchanted Sails. Ships serve almost entirely for transport, carrying cargo and passengers between ports; the Navy's submarines fight demonic threats beneath the waves, and its relatively few surface ships focus on trade and diplomacy.
Most ships carry some degree of defense against pirates and other threats, but protection varies widely. Owners sailing low-risk waters often limit or forgo it to save on costs, while ships carrying important goods or people are equipped with real firepower. A handful of Navy patrol ships can also be contracted to escort critical cargo. The ships below are the most renowned in Endros.
The Opaline
The Opaline is a grand luxury liner that travels alongside the Opaline Procession, allowing land-dwellers to join the touring company as it visits the Merfolk colonies beside the Tidewalk ports of Endros. It houses a full Divehall where passengers can rent Aquamasks and Finsuits to join the Merfolk festivities. Its Seahold cabins also accommodate Merfolk guests, making it one of the few vessels where surface and aquatic travelers share similar luxuries.
The Ambassador
The Ambassador is a diplomatic yacht belonging to the Cerulean Court, used by Cerulean Maidens, Sirens, and other Merfolk ambassadors to conduct affairs between the Merfolk colonies and surface cities. The yacht's hull is half flooded, with wet and dry salons arranged side by side so that Merfolk and land-dwellers can meet comfortably as equals. An Aquagate pool at its center allows Merfolk to come and go directly from the sea. With its own consulate chamber, the Ambassador functions much like a traveling Tidewalk, bringing diplomacy to any port it visits.
Dawnbringer
Dawnbringer was built with the help of Aedron, God of Crafting, to carry refugees to Endros during the Demonic Invasion. Massive and swift, it was designed to transport thousands of passengers across dangerous seas, and was armed with powerful anti-demonic weaponry that allowed it to survive repeated voyages between continents. Its golden sunburst figurehead and sun-emblem sails became a symbol of hope, and countless families in Endros trace their arrival to its decks.
Today, Dawnbringer serves as the grand ferry between Meris and the mainland. Though it is neither as fast as Sailfish nor as elegant as the Opaline, its modern refits have given it real comfort and appeal.
The Angler
The Angler is a Navy vessel disguised as a vulnerable merchant ship, designed to bait the pirates that prey on Endros's trade routes. Its facades, sail colors, house banners, and enchantments can be swapped quickly, so it rarely appears the same way twice. When pirates commit to an attack, a Navy Merfolk strike force deploys from its flooded hold through Aquagates beneath the hull, overwhelming the Warlock Merfolk that pirate crews rely on to contest the waters below. Few outside the Navy know its true appearance, and among sailors it is spoken of more as a rumor than a ship.
Greathold
Greathold is the largest cargo ship in Endros, built to carry enormous quantities of grain, stone, and materials to harbors in support of the eastern warfront. It is too large to dock at most ports, so it anchors offshore while smaller vessels ferry its cargo to land.
Sailfish
Sailfish is the fastest ship in Endros, recognizable by its tall sail shaped like a sailfish's fin; it is the showpiece of Tidalwave Technologies and the holder of nearly every sailing record between major ports. It carries essential supplies and crew when speed matters most, such as medicine, critical materials, and specialists urgently needed elsewhere.
