Demon Cities

Infernums, Demon Cities City

  • Demons create cities above ground, using bedrock and materials excavated from the Warrens, which extend beneath the city through vast caverns, stretching kilometers away.
  • Structured layouts: Shapedโ€”leveled terraces, reinforced walls, slopes carefully sculpted for stability, access paths, and stairways carved into the stone and earth.
  • Excess stone from the excavated bedrock would naturally be repurposed into high defensive walls, ramparts, and fortified towers encircling and traversing the mounds. The exterior would appear rugged yet clearly planned, designed strategically for defense and city expansion.
  • Above-ground structures are Calcified with Carnal Miasma, which grow Infernal Veins over time with the demonic presence.
  • Multiple heavy walls and mounds constructed, with structures often built directly into artificial hills, creating seamless transitions between above- and below-ground architecture.
  • Artificial hills resemble tiered ziggurats.
  • Imposing entrances, carvings, gates, and statues; crafted by the Fiends.
  • Miasma fortress-cities, broadcasting strength, discipline, and social order.
  • These cities are formed of tightly compressed, large structures embedded into artificial stone hills and masses. Even the above ground has narrow roads.
  • Abundance of tunnels that lead into the Warrens. The setup can be confusing to outsiders.
  • Dens: The structures where Barghests live. Usually domed. Contains simple comforts, weapons, armor.
  • Chimeran tunnels are the largest.

Dredges & Slagwarrens

  • Dredges: The initial excavations of a demonic city, often dug out from a Warren tunnel. Foundation often begins underneath, but gradually opens up into the above.
  • Slagwarren: A dumping ground with simple entrances and exits to move excavated material out. If circumstances change, these may be adapted into small bases or fortifications, or even converted into dredges to initiate city construction.

From Fairkin & Adventurer's Perspective

  • For new cities within Endros, overwhelming numbers of soldiers and adventurers are brought in to ensure victory against them immediately upon discovery. Letting demon cities grow out of control is very dangerous, and will lead to the creation of Shadowlands.
  • Larger, established cities are substantially harder to deal with, as direct confrontation is no longer straightforward, even with an army. Requires more long-term culling and guerrilla tactics.
    • This is due to the larger cities having vast abundance of Miasma power, sorcery, and demon wonders, as well as fortifications.
    • Long-term sieges are more effective.
    • In the meantime, lots of other demon villages start popping up that need to be dealt with.
    • Fairies are good at tracking these, so it's not too hard to immediately send adventurers to address it.

Warrens

  • The vast underground lairs and complexes beneath demon cities.
  • Excavated materials are used above ground.
  • Stretch for many kilometers.
  • Mined out primarily by Barghests.
  • Inhabited primarily by Fiends.
  • Chimerans also take residence in the Warrens, especially for sleep or healing.
  • Areas with strong concentrations of Miasma and Demons tend to have more obsidian walls composed of Carnal Miasma.
    • Indicates dangerous areas. Generally off limits except to Gold Rank parties.
  • Areas with even stronger concentrations will include Infernal Veins, indicating a strong presence of Infernal Miasma.
    • These indicate extremely dangerous areas, and are considered off limits except to Platinum Rank parties.
  • Areas that extend to Slagwarrens.
  • When there is sufficient growth, Warrens extend to create demon cities.

Special Chambers

  • Calcification Chambers: Designed to maximize access to specific Miasma flows, allows for Calcifiers.
    • Often channels Miasma that is more specific than just a single Miasma Class. Highly specialized.
    • Are the "workshops" and laboratories of the Demonkin.
  • Pod Chambers: Designed to encourage the growth of demon pods.
    • Have very specific Miasma patterns that form here.
    • Grows lots of demon pods, much higher amount than usual.
    • Often designed to birth specific demon types.
      • Doubles as quarters for the demon types being created.

From Fairkin and Adventurer's Perspectives

  • Labyrinths are designed to extend into the Warrens, since the Warrens attract so much Miasma.
  • Demons in the Warrens become hyperactive during Blood Hunts, attack in droves.
  • Need to often be culled to avoid overwhelm during Blood Hunts, but effectively impossible to get all of it.
