Religious Infrastructure
Churches
Churches are multi-faith community centers where religious services take place. Churches have several venues available to host gatherings. Each faith reserves venues at a church, typically on consistent weekly schedules for their primary services, and intermittent arrangements for minor holidays or special events. Prominent faiths may also reserve small permanent rooms or shrines for their followers, either through sufficient donations or noble patronage.
Roughly one church exists per 5,000 citizens. Churches are typically open at all hours, with three primary services each day: morning, afternoon, and night. Services often share common elements of communal prayer, music, and recitation of sacred texts. These activities, especially when performed in groups with genuine faith and emotion, naturally generate larger quantities of Prana. Festivals involve even larger gatherings and more elaborate ceremonies, which are especially beneficial.
Floodhalls
Floodhalls are churches connected to water, with infrastructure designed to co-host aquatic species with land-dwelling species. Aquatic tunnels and seating are available along room borders, allowing Merfolk and other aquatic species to participate. Cisterns, sluices, and rooms that integrate partial submersion during high tides are commonly featured. They are typically located near Merfolk Pavilions and are connected to city Underwards through the Aquatic Tunnel Network. Most floodhalls are designed to host water-based religions, such as the Church of Nautilus and the Church of Ursula. They are popular venues for Merfolk weddings, and for land-dwelling marriages where Merfolk allies are expected to attend.
Sanctuaries
Sanctuaries are large religious centers that serve as hubs of guidance and magical healing. Special venues are available to host the most important religious gatherings, including major ceremonies and rituals. Operations are actively supported by a near-constant supply of Prana. Care is provided for the sick and wounded, especially for emergency support. Adventurers receive priority healing. In times of crisis, Sanctuaries form the first line of support by mobilizing resources and volunteers to aid affected populations.
Sanctuaries are run by Amara's Anointed Saints, with support from priests and healers capable of offering magical aid. They are typically located in Adventuring districts or other high-risk areas where injuries are most common. Funding comes from the Adventurer's Guild, special care services, and religious donations from many faiths and patrons.
Fairy Hut
- Apartment-like structures that house multiple fairies, usually on higher floors or raised off the ground.
- Look like apartments from the outside, including fairy-sized windows and doors.
- Contains fairy-sized furnishings.
- Typically stationed at Sanctuaries in their greenspace or in Shrine Gardens.
Shrine Garden
Shrine Gardens are serene, communal gardens that feature statues, altars, shrines, and natural elements like water features and sacred trees dedicated to various deities. They provide a tranquil environment for prayer, meditation, rituals, and ceremonies for a variety of faiths. Most settlements have a number of Shrine Gardens, especially in areas of nature that were dedicated for this purpose.
