The Archivist Hall
Every major city in Endros houses an Archivist Hall: the local node of Lexica's intelligence network. Here the Archivist's Guild conducts public business, processes regional intelligence, and coordinates operations across the city. Each Hall is overseen by a Conservator who interfaces between local affairs and the vast institutional knowledge of the Archivist's Guild hive mind.
Archivist Halls project quiet authority through clarity, precision, and transparency: white and pale marble, open atriums flooded with natural light, minimal ornamentation. Each Hall is built to institutional scale befitting a government ministry, typically situated close to the Palace. Each Hall features the Lexica Arch at its main entrance: a distinctive columned portico with the Guild's eye-and-tome symbol rendered in silver inlay at the keystone.
Public Wing
The accessible face of the Guild; businesslike, active, and professional. Freely accessible during operating hours.
- Reception Hall: The main entrance where citizens conduct business with the Guild.
- Information desks staffed by secretaries handle inquiries, purchase intelligence, and schedule appointments.
- Merchants, investigators, and curious citizens pass through regularly.
- Consultation Rooms: Private rooms off the reception area for sensitive exchanges.
- Suited for those with valuable intel to sell or matters too delicate for the open hall.
- Merchant Liaison Offices: For businesses and factions with ongoing arrangements.
- Appointment-based meetings with senior staff who maintain these relationships on the Conservator's behalf.
- Waiting Areas: Professional seating for those with appointments deeper in the Hall.
Administrative Wing
The operational heart of the Hall.
- Conservator's Office: The Archivist's personal workspace and meeting space for significant visitors.
- Decisions affecting the region's intelligence operations flow through here.
- Analysis Chambers: Where intelligence staff process, verify, and catalogue incoming information.
- Multiple rooms allow parallel work on sensitive matters.
- Briefing Rooms: For staff meetings, visiting Agents, and coordination with external parties.
- Handles liaisons of the Adventurer's Guild, noble representatives, allied factions, etc.
- Secure Workrooms: Enhanced warding for particularly sensitive intelligence work.
- Used when standard wing protections aren't sufficient.
- Communications Center: A Mindscape-integrated space where staff receive broadcasts, access distributed Mindshard archives, and coordinate with other Halls through Archivist relays.
- Staff Offices: Workspaces for analysts, clerks, journalists, and support personnel.
- Amenities: Break areas, kitchens, and practical facilities for personnel working long hours.
Operations Wing
For field work, investigations, and authorized visitors.
- Agent Facilities: Temporary offices and workspaces for Agents passing through.
- Debrief rooms, secure document review, and access to local intelligence networks.
- Interview Rooms: Professional spaces for witness statements, informant meetings, and routine questioning.
- Evidence Processing: Secure area for handling physical materials relevant to investigations.
- Maintained with strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Storage is limited; most documentation transfers to Mindshards for distributed preservation.
- Psydive Chamber: A major installation housing a private Mindscape system designed for classified intelligence work.
- The system is isolated, secured, and built for handling sensitive operations: strategic briefings, secure presentations, evidence reconstruction, and intelligence analysis that cannot risk outside observation.
- Archives: Physical storage for local records and materials not yet transferred to Mindshards.
- Functional rather than extensive; the Guild's true archives exist distributed across the hive mind.
Security & Access
The Administrative and Operations Wings are fully warded and restricted to authorized staff and visitors. Guards maintain a light and professional presence at entrances and key transition points; enough to handle incidents and discourage problems. Secret, secure passages and safe rooms are also available in case of emergency, though the Hall's true protection is institutional: causing trouble here means causing trouble with Lexica.
Staff
- Conservator: The resident Archivist overseeing all Hall operations, connected to Lexica's hive mind and serving as regional controller for the Guild.
- Senior Analysts: Experienced intelligence staff who process high-priority information and brief the Conservator on developments.
- Liaisons: Staff maintaining relationships with merchants, nobles, and allied factions who have ongoing arrangements with the Guild.
- Journalists & Observers: Field staff gathering local news and intelligence from across the cityโmonitoring events, tracking developments, and feeding information back to the Hall.
- Secretaries & Clerks: Handle public inquiries, records management, scheduling, and administrative support.
- Guards: Maintain order and building security.
