Concordia

Concordia, Goddess of Pacts

Concordia is a commanding Goddess whose presence radiates unquestioned authority. Those who stand before her often feel a heavy sense of obligation, compelled to honor their word. When she speaks, her voice carries a resonance of absolute precision, truth, and clarity. In her presence, misunderstandings are almost impossible; listeners easily grasp precisely what she intends to convey.

As the Goddess of Pacts, Concordia feels a constant mandate to act as the law and will of her people. Her motivation is not to create many laws, but rather to create a few impactful, streamlined laws that are well understood and enforced.

Power of Contracts

Concordia oversees the formation and enforcement of Endros's most consequential contracts, including the titles of nobility, granting them weight far beyond ordinary agreements. All titles are copied, registered, and sealed, with payments redistributed according to arrangements set with other Gods and factions.

Concordia excels at detecting deception and hidden intentions, especially those tied to her agreements. During negotiations she detects planned betrayals and often uncovers the motives behind them. She instinctively identifies potential loopholes and closes those that could undermine her position.

Though it requires a modest expenditure of divine essence, Concordia can detect if a subject in her presence has knowingly violated a pact with her in recent years, typically within the last two or three. Such violations invite severe punishment, serving as a strong deterrent throughout Endros. However, certain mental warding can resist this ability.

Rule of Skywood

Known informally as the Queen, Concordia rules Skywood with absolute authority. After the Astralei departed, she arranged to govern the city herself, having been entrusted by Adonis with its secrets and the ability to leverage its ancient enchantments. She refuses to grant titles of nobility for domains within Skywood, preventing any challenge to her rule over this strategic center of diplomacy.

The Maidens

The Maidens are Concordia's Anointed, serving as elite courtiers, confidantes, and information brokers in political circles across the realm. Recognizable by their lace chokers and custom Regalia commissioned from Sutra, they function as Concordia's eyes and ears. They integrate into every political faction and excel at influencing events according to her broader designs.

Justice and Enforcement

Concordia's approach to justice is strict and often severe, meant to preserve stability in a volatile political landscape. Those who break contracts without cause face punishments designed to deter others. She prefers to extract value by compelling offenders to serve her aims. If they can offer no value, she often consigns them to serve out their days on the front lines in Titania.

Divine Relationships

Adonis trusted Concordia to keep her word, entrusting her with power over Skywood and the Astralei secrets. This relationship remains the foundation of her authority there.

Lexica, Goddess of the Mind, works directly with Concordia to oversee and manage many of the complexities of the titles of nobility, including the bulk of intelligence operations that investigate breaches of Universal Law. Most notably, Lexica designed the original system of nobility that curbed the conquering impulses of Kratos, directing his aggression toward demonic threats rather than the fragile remnants of humanity.

The Adventurer's Guild is called upon for enforcement as needed, even requesting Artemis in very rare cases simply to make a public display of their relationship. This partnership has created a fearsome reputation for the certainty of her justice.

Cultural Impact

Concordia's influence permeates Endrosian language and custom, especially through Skywood and the neighboring regions of Aegis, Ironwood, and Vale. "By Concordia's witness" is a common oath for solemn promises, and "breaking the seal" (shorthand for "breaking Concordia's seal") refers to the gravest betrayal.

Through meticulous cultivation of systems and alliances, Concordia has become a central pillar of Endrosian society. Her influence shapes every aspect of life in a world held together by precarious alliances and hard-won stability.
