Work Life

Work & Economy

Birth has a strong influence on your job and role in society. People may struggle to choose their own lifestyles. Adventuring is a notable exception to the rule; anyone willing to fight demons can find the opportunity to. Many roles are designed to facilitate the food supply and gathering materials. Artisans and intellectuals are in high demand, but proving oneself smart enough to become a mentor or enter the public schooling system is difficult.

Concordia and Lexica have devoted many resources to education, but due to the war efforts and practical restraints, it is contained mostly to the cities. Remote regions don't have the same opportunities.

Duty is an important virtue and strong influence on the world. People work hard, especially in Dwarven culture. The existential risk to humanity means that apathy is viewed as a serious sin. Leisure is fine; laziness is not. Those who don't work are seen as second-class citizens and may be subject to enslavement or forcibly sent to fight in the Titan Wars.

Children work from a very young age, especially in remote regions. Between five and seven, most children are handling light, useful tasks. Between seven and twelve, they're doing economically valuable work. By twelve, they're treated almost as adult workers.
