Aquatech
Includes water treatment, aquatic travel systems, and other Aqua-related Aethertech.
Buoy
Buoys are items and materials that can have their buoyancy set and adjusted. They resist water motion, allowing them to retain a consistent position underwater, making them very useful for Merfolk and aquatic societies. They come in a variety of forms; some are designed to support standing weight, act as rescue lines, store goods, act as markers, be used for sports, and more.
Aquaball
Aquaballs are sports balls designed for aquatic sports; especially among the Merfolk. Each Aquaball contains a small, enchanted core and a Mindshard capable of advanced programming. The exterior is made of Merwear materials that are well-suited for underwater sports. Aquaballs excel at interacting with water and Water Aether, allowing them to maneuver with unusual agility in any aquatic environment. This makes them ideal for a variety of aquatic sports and recreational activities.
Aquagate
Aquagates are Aethertech frames that prevent the passage of water, including designs that repel water only in one direction. They are often used on the undersides of ships, providing underwater access for merfolk, ondori dolphins, and other sea creatures. The navy equips them on every war ship due to their strategic value for military use. They are also valuable to ships that do business with or trade with merfolk. The costs are relatively affordable due to the simplicity of the tech. As an added benefit, Aquagates will instantly dry those who pass through.
Water Purifier
Water purifiers siphon and collect salt, silt, and other contaminants from water. They can also be modified to mix liquids, remove toxins and poisons, separate liquids, add contaminants, or make simple modifications to liquid. A basic purifier can purify around 50 liters a day, though larger versions that purify several thousand are used for city infrastructure.
Breathing Stick
Breathing Sticks are small, ancient devices that have been outdated and replaced by Aquamasks. They are bitten and held in the mouth, extracting oxygen from the water to allow air-breathers to breathe underwater. Breathing Sticks significantly lengthen one's duration underwater, but are not sufficient to handle full breath indefinitely like Aquamasks. Due to their rarity, they are harder to acquire than Aquamasks.
Aquamask
Aquamasks are half-masks that cover the mouth and nose, allowing users to speak and breathe underwater. Oxygen is extracted directly from the water and sound waves are magically emitted to allow speech to be easily understood. Designed for land-dwelling races, these masks are usually not sold independently. They are included as standard equipment with Finsuits.
Finsuit
Finsuits are waterproof, self-cleaning bodysuits designed to allow land-dwelling races to enhance aquatic movement and survive underwater. These suits manipulate water currents, maintain body temperature, resist deepwater pressure, reduce friction and drag, and enhance propulsion for swift and agile swimming. A proficient user becomes nearly as effective underwater as a Merfolk, capable of performing sharp turns, rapid accelerations, and bursts of speed while underwater. Finsuits cling to the body, keeping the user's skin healthy, dry, and properly moisturized. They come with an Aquamask as standard equipment when purchased.
Ursula has paid for the mass production of excess Finsuits and Aquamasks for centuries, drastically reducing their price. They are nearly free to rent in Merfolk cities, and may be gifted to land-dwellers that accept a primary residence within Merfolk cities. They can be purchased outright for less than a gold, far below the production cost.
Stealth Finsuits
Stealth Finsuits are Finsuits that have been additionally enhanced to suppress disruptions within the water, muffling sounds and water movement that could normally be detected by attentive sea creatures. Their cost is significantly higher than that of a traditional Finsuit, and they are usually not available for purchase by land-dwellers.
Penguin Board
Penguin Boards are sleek, slightly curved surfboards with a smooth, glossy surface and a watery iridescence. They have a palette of blues, silvers, and whites, while hydro-reactive elements change color or emit mist during movement. Powered by Water Aether, the board propels users at speeds up to 30 mph on unfavorable water, or up to 50 mph in favorable water. It automatically adjusts buoyancy and balance for sharp turns and rapid accelerations, but users may require practice to control the board effectively in turbulent waters.
Enchanted Ship
Enchanted Ships use Water-infused Aethertech along the underside of the ship to displace water, allowing it to propel itself. Ships with these modifications can double or even triple their typical speed, making them extremely valuable for travel and trade.
Hydro-Lane Marker
Hydro-Lane Markers are strategically placed Aethertech devices that generate directional currents that form underwater highways, allowing movement up to 25-40% faster. They are elegant, runic obelisks partially buried in the seabed. These obelisks are typically arranged in networks, with each unit pointing towards the next, creating efficient underwater transportation routes, especially around Meris and the Merfolk cities.
Seahold
Seaholds are sealed underwater rooms that provide a comfortable, livable habitat for land-dwellers deep underwater. These rooms can interconnect with other Seaholds like the interior of a building complex, with additional Aqua-gate passages into water. Land-dwellers have the necessary oxygen, temperature, light exposure, and other needs met within these chambers. Ursula has an extensive network of Seaholds within her cities, some with many unoccupied residences that are heavily discounted.
Sloshpack
Sloshpacks are backpacks designed to hold a source of water for Water Sorcerers on land assignments. They are imbued with enchantments that purify the water and passively refill it over time, especially in humid areas or near bodies of water. Some come with a pressurized chamber or an ice chamber, which are typically for specialized use cases. While Sloshpacks can offer great value to a Water Sorcerer on land, they are still a pale reflection of their power in optimal environments. Sloshpacks can get quite heavy when full.
