Appendix
Range Bands
Range Bands represent the approximate distance you are from your target, and affect what attacks are possible.
- Melee Range: 0-2 meters
- Short Range: 2-10 meters
- Medium Range: 10-25 meters
- Long Range: 25-50 meters
- Far Range: 50-100 meters
Scenes
Rather than tracking a specific amount of time that has passed between events, it is often easier to gauge if a "scene" has passed. You can think of a scene like in a movie encounter, where an event transpires in a given location for a short while and then a new scene is portrayed next.
- Short Scene: Roughly 5 minutes; e.g. a quick sparring match, traveling across a village, etc.
- Scene: Roughly 30 to 60 minutes; e.g. a battlefield skirmish, meeting a noble, a burglary, etc.
- Long Scene: Several hours (3 to 5); e.g. a party, a city hall meeting, etc.
- Long Rest: Roughly 6-8 hours of rest.
Material Units
These terms are shorthand for volumes and materials referenced by Sorcery and Chi powers.
- Earth: Includes Soft Earth and Hard Earth.
- Soft Earth: Soil, sand, pebbles, loose gravel, soft clay, and similar loose or workable earth.
- Hard Earth: Stone, heavy gravel, bedrock, ore, and similar dense or solid earth.
- Block: 1 cubic meter of volume; e.g. a 1 meter cube.
- Chunk: A 50cm cube. 8 chunks fit in 1 block.
- Brick: A 20cm cube. 125 bricks fit in 1 block.
- Barrel: 1 cubic meter of water or similar liquid.
Material Notes
- Alchemical stones and warded infrastructure are highly resistant or immune to earth magic.
- Water magic can affect liquids other than water, but viscosity may reduce performance or require GM judgment.
- Ice creates difficult terrain and inflicts Disadvantage on physical actions unless a power or circumstance says otherwise.
- Burning targets can spend an action to put themselves out.
- Aura-warded items, such as items held, worn, or carried by a creature, usually resist external manipulation effects like telekinesis.
Excavation Benchmarks
These are rough baselines for skilled, mundane labor under good working conditions.
- A professional digger, with optimal tools, can excavate 1 block of soft earth in 1 hour.
- A professional miner, with optimal tools, can excavate 1 block of hard earth in 10 hours.
- Poor tools, unstable ground, tight spaces, hauling spoil, shoring tunnels, or trying to work quietly can slow excavation.
- Magic can exceed mundane excavation rates where stated; e.g. Move Soil moves about 360 blocks per hour, while Move Stone moves about 3 blocks per hour.
